The fun new comedy show “Animal Practice,” has already become a great show to watch this season. Who doesn’t love to see really smart animals working with human actors at a veterinarian office in New York City?

In the Episode titled “Clean Smelling Pirate,” Crystal the adventurous monkey known as Dr. Rizzo shows her love for Mobile Edge Laptop Bags.

The new Fall Television Season is now well underway. Each year several new TV Shows are launched, and one I happen to love is the new comedy called “Animal Practice,” on NBC. The first show aired last Wednesday, and the highlight was seeing Crystal the Monkey (and doctor on the show) strike the Tim Tebow pose!

Visiting the Animal Practice set on Paramount Studios today, I was able to get a photo with Crystal while visiting Property Master, Rhonda Robinson. Different Mobile Edge products will be used on the show periodically, so make sure to watch out for them.

I love handbags, purses, briefcases, weekender bags, pretty much anything that I can stuff in a neat package and carry it around while still looking pretty I’m a sucker for. As such I’m constantly looking for new bags to add to my collection especially in the work tote/briefcase department as I tend to wear them into the ground. I’ve previously written a post on work (and fashion) appropriate bags to take to the office, which can be found here. I’m always open to seeing what else is out there so when I had the chance to review theOnyx Geneva from Mobile Edge I was quite excited. Keep reading for the review!

Appearance
The Mobile Edge Onyx Geneva retails for $99.99 and is all black with a mixture of a fabric-like material and faux-leather accents on the trim, flap, and handles. It has three exterior pockets on the front of the bag with an overhanging flap secured by a hidden magnet.

Space
I often joke that packing my work bag is like a game of Tetris, if everything is put together a certain way it all fits. The ME Onyx Geneva is considered a “laptop case” and that is true. The bag is 5.3″ wide so there is a lot of space to carry your laptop, iPad, and all other electronic devices. I took this bag to work a few days and I could easily fit my 13″ MacBook Air, wallet, keys, makeup bag, charger and kindle. I could even fit my Toms shoes (I walk to work) if I packed it just right. The bag has a lot of room inside without looking bulky but don’t expect it to fit anything bulky or awkwardly shaped.

Comfort
One thing commonly overlooked in bags is the straps and how wearable they are. The straps on the ME Onyx Geneva are rounded on the bottom and flat on the top so they don’t slip off your shoulder. This may seem silly but this is genius and my favorite part of the bag. The bag stayed comfortably on my shoulder during my treks through DC. The bag itself is not light but not heavy either; Mobile Edge has it listed as 4.5lbs. The bag is very comfortable to wear and does not feel bulky hanging on your shoulder.

Here is an interesting article from TWICE Magazine that underscores how hot the Tablet market is now with a forecast to surpass laptop sales by 2016.

Santa Clara, Calif. – Tablet shipments will surpass notebook shipments in 2016, thanks largely to demand by consumers in more mature markets such as North America, Japan and Europe, NPD DisplaySearch forecasts.

“Consumer preference for mobile computing devices is shifting from notebooks to tablet PCs, particularly in mature markets,” said senior analyst Richard Shim. “New entrants are tending to launch their initial products in mature markets,” he explained, because “services and infrastructure needed to create compelling new usage models are often better established in mature markets.”

Tablet sales are rising because of such convenience-oriented features as instant-on capability, long battery life and extreme portability, he said, and their expected evolution in form factor and performance will make them “a compelling alternative to notebook PCs.” The tablet evolution will include multi-core processors, increasingly stable operating systems, growing app libraries and higher resolution displays, he said.

Notebook PCs, however, are evolving to meet the tablet challenge, taking on thinner form factors, higher resolution displays and touch functionality.

In its forecast, NPD DisplaySearch forecasts overall mobile-PC shipments, including notebooks and tablets, will grow 133 percent from 347 million units in 2012 to more than 809 million in 2017. Notebook PC shipments will grow 89 percent from 208 million units in 2012 to 393 million in 2017, but tablet shipments will grow 244 percent from 121 million units to 416 million units. (see table.)

Mature markets will account for 66 percent of global shipments in 2012 and remain in the 60-percent range through 2017, NPD said. Tablet PC shipments into mature markets will more than triple from 80 million units in 2012 to 254 million in 2017.

Notebooks PCs will account for 60 percent of global mobile PC shipments in 2012 but will drop to a 49 share in 2017.

Apple announced this week they will no longer make the 17″ MacBook Pro because their new 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina display is just simply better. Although the screen is smaller, the amazing graphics, battery life, and speedy boot-up time make up for it.

Design
The new MacBook Pro balances portability and power like no other notebook, so well that Apple has decided to kill off the 17-inch MacBook Pro. Despite packing such high-octane components, this machine’s unibody aluminum design weighs a mere 4.46 pounds and measures 0.71 inches thin. That’s 25 percent thinner than the last-gen MacBook Pro and 1.1 pounds lighter. The Air weighs just 3 pounds, making it better suited for cramped airline trays, but the new Pro is certainly portable enough for travel.

The only machine with a 15-inch display that’s more mobile than the new Pro is the Samsung Series 9 15-inch, which weighs 3.8 pounds and has a 0.58-inch profile. However, that laptop features a less powerful ultra-low-voltage Core i5 CPU and integrated graphics. The Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra with Nvidia graphics weighs 4.5 pounds but is a thicker 0.78 inches and uses cheaper plastic in the chassis.

The new MacBook Pro essentially looks like Apple put the old model on the Atkins diet, but it’s still remarkably sturdy. The silver chassis sports the same iconic backlit Apple logo on the back, a black bezel surrounding the eye-popping screen, and the trademark black backlit keyboard with silver deck. Some might appreciate a little more flair, but we suspect most MacBook fans wouldn’t have it any other way.

Retina Display
In some ways the Retina Display on the MacBook Pro is more profound than the one on the third-generation iPad, especially for the target audience. It changes the way you work. The 2880 x 1800 pixels will definitely come in handy when editing RAW photos in apps such as Aperture and the new Photoshop, both of which have been optimized for the increased resolution.

It’s easy to show off this eye candy to those who want to know what all the fuss is about. Just compare the new MacBook Pro and the 13-inch Air side by side and they’ll see that it’s no contest. Icons look as if they were painted on the MacBook Pro, while the same icons on the Air look pixelated up close — and this is one of the better screens on the market.

Just as important, the Pro has markedly better contrast and color saturation. The high-def “Dark Knight Rises” trailer had blacker blacks than the Air but also more vibrant yellows and more natural skin tones.

So what about glare? Apple says it worked to reduce it by 75 percent. We did notice some reflections when using the MacBook Pro by a pool, but it wasn’t distracting. The 178-degree viewing angles make this notebook ideal for presentations. We could easily make out websites when viewed from the sides, and vertical viewing angles were just as forgiving.It’s not the brightest, though; the MacBook Pro’s average brightness of 223 lux falls slightly below the category average of 258.

New TSA Guidelines for Tablets and Ultrabooks

New TSA Guidelines for Tablets and Ultrabooks:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently implemented several new policies regarding laptops and tablets. As it stands now, if you have a traditional laptop or Ultrabook, it has to be removed unless you have a TSA compliant laptop bag like theScanFast Collection by Mobile Edge.

However, if you have a tablet or iPad, you do not have to remove it from your bag. If you have both, a laptop and an iPad, you will still have to remove the laptop unless again it is in a TSA Compliant Checkpoint Friendly laptop bag.

Here is a blog post from the TSA which outlines the topic of Tablets versus laptops, and explains which ones would need to be removed.

I saw some headlines today stating that TSA refuses to explain why laptops have to be removed and tablet computers do not. This kind of baffled me, because a post has been up on the subject since April of 2010. Most of the post explains what can stay in and what has to come out, but we give a reason why towards the end:

“Only electronics the size of a standard laptop or larger (for example Playstation®, Xbox™, or Nintendo®), full-size DVD players, and video cameras that use video cassettes must be removed from their carrying cases and submitted separately for x-ray screening. Removing larger electronics helps us get a better look at them and also allows us to get a better look at the contents of your bag.”

Basically, tablet computers, iPads, Netbooks and e-readers are less dense than your typical laptop, so it’s easier for our X-ray operator to inspect your bag. However, larger laptops and game consoles appear denser and need to be removed in order for the X-ray operator to get a good look at your bag. With that said, there are still times that tablet computers, Netbooks, and e-readers have to come out. If our Officer can’t get a good look at your bag or if they see something out of the ordinary, they’ll have to remove it.

The larger the laptop, the more stuff you can hide in it. Items have been found concealed in laptops in the past, so we have to be able to get a good look at them. Our officers have about 3 seconds to make a call in order to keep lines moving, so the less clutter, the easier it is to clear your bag and get you on your way.

Some believe that women lawyers who wear fashionable bags will jeopardize their credibility in the legal profession. On the other hand, there are those who believe that women lawyers who exhibit a sense of personal style will be able to boost their colleagues’ confidence in their skills and abilities. I believe that both camps may be partially correct, because like it or not, the way that you dress, including the accessories that you wear, affects how others view you in the professional world. In order to gain some additional perspective on this issue, I decided to speak with two well-known women lawyers.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Apple Inc’s new iPad topped Consumer Reports’ list of tablets despite the influential watchdog stoking doubts two weeks ago by saying the latest iteration of the best-selling tablet threw off more heat when used heavily.

The widely followed group that reviews everything from electronics to cars, said on Monday that it did not find the higher temperatures to be cause for concern.
The nonprofit organization also tested the iPad for concerns about poor battery recharging when playing an intense video game.

“The problem was limited to times when the device was playing a demanding game with the screen fully bright,” it said.

Consumer Reports had earlier found that the new iPad reached temperatures of 116 degrees Fahrenheit (47 Celsius) after 45 minutes of running an intense action game. That meant the new iPad was hotter by up to 13 degrees Fahrenheit than the previous model under similar conditions.

The third iteration of the iPad is off to a strong start with sales of more than 3 million units since it hit store shelves last month.

The group generated headlines in 2010 when it said it could not recommend the iPhone 4 to buyers due to signal reception issues.

Apple’s co-founder, the late Steve Jobs, called a press conference to address the issues laid out by the publication and then gave consumers free bumpers, a frame-like cover, with the phone as the nonprofit group had said the case fixed the reception problem.

Reviews for the new iPad have generally been good. The latest version from Apple is not a complete redesign of the iPad 2, but takes advantage of faster 4G wireless technology and has a sharper display.

As the Public Relations Director forMobile Edge, I often have the opportunity to meet with influential news reporters and media representatives. Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of visiting the ABC 7 Eyewitness Newsroom to introduce the new Mobile Edge REV360 rotating iPad case which is planned to be released to the public soon.

I met with Jay Eckstein, Assignments Editor, and proud California State University, Fullerton Alumni. I quickly popped in his personal iPad 2 and showed him how functional the new iPad cover is, and how it can be used for multiple applications.

Jay then brought me over to meet with his News Director, and she placed her new iPad inside the REV360. After rotating the iPad 360 degrees and examining how nice the REV360 fits, she realized there are scores of ways reporters can use this versatile new iPad accessory.
